Tell your lawmakers to expand, not weaken, WA Cares!

Washington’s legislative session is in full swing in Olympia, and they are holding  important hearings on bills to strengthen WA Cares.

More than 3 million working Washingtonians are relying on WA Cares to help pay for support in case of a serious car accident, cancer, complicated pregnancy, or dementia.

And we need your help! Tell your lawmakers to support SB 6072 and HB 2467 which will protect, strengthen, and expand WA Cares to provide even more support to working Washingtonians.

The truth is, 70% of Washingtonians will wind up needing long-term care as we age. These  bills will help make WA Cares even stronger by:

  • Giving Us The Choice To Take Coverage With Us.
Washingtonians who have contributed to WA Cares would be able choose to continue their coverage even after moving out of state. This means that even though Washington is the first state in the nation with a program like WA Cares, we can count on our benefits no matter where we end up.
  • Letting Us Opt Back In.
Right now, more than 15,000 working Washingtonians want to opt back in to WA Cares benefits. Private long term care insurance policy premiums can rise by 50, 100, even 300% with no notice. Many workers have realized WA Cares is a crucial safety net, and allowing people to opt back in will strengthen WA Cares.
  • Creating A Supplemental Long Term Care Insurance Program. Our WA Cares benefits will grow with inflation, and for many of us, will be more than enough for the home modifications or help we need to stay in our homes. But some of us might need 24/7 care on a long term basis, or face progressive illnesses like Alzheimer’s. Expanding WA Cares to go along with a supplemental long term care insurance policy will make a huge difference.
